It's about experienced students
becoming a 'mentor' to new students from out of town to help them
settle in. It's about passing on knowledge and ideas and extending
a helping hand to the next generation of first years or transferring
students. It's all about starting at UNSW.
The program runs in the first
session of each year and aims to help first year students in their
transition to studying at UNSW, and also their transition to living
in Sydney.
The program has been running for
a number of years and comprises a network of students who have
left their hometown outside the Sydney metropolitan area to study
at UNSW. If you are a starting student, you will receive an invitation
from us before you enrol asking you to become a mentee in the
program. If you decide to join you get to meet new friends and
pick up handy hints from older students who've been there and
done that!
Become a
Peer Mentor!
If you are an existing UNSW student
and you hail from a regional or city area outside of metropolitan
Sydney, you could become a peer mentor.
As a mentor you will be given a small group of mentees (first
year students) to guide and facilitate through the first 8 weeks
of session. You'll receive lots of resources and help along the
way and develop a leadership role within the UNSW community. You
receive free training in February and a certificate to include
in your CV.
We start recruiting mentors around
the middle of Session 2 each year, so if you'd like to join, simply
pick up an application from at the Counselling Service, pick up
one from our website,
enrol online
here, or send an email
or call 9385 5418.
