Peer Mentoring @ UNSW

What is peer mentoring?

Peer mentors are experienced students who provide support to new students making their transition to university life. They have a special role in helping new students settle into UNSW by answering questions and passing on their tips and knowledge.

What actually happens in a peer mentor program?

Each program is slightly different, but in general, mentors attend a free training day, are allocated a group of between one and ten mentees (first year students) whom they meet for the first time in O-week. Mentors are then asked to make contact with their mentees at least four or five times in the first 8 weeks of session. Some mentor programs run social activities where mentors and mentees meet and do fun things like go on a harbour cruise or play trivia That’s it in a nutshell!
